当司机靠近高速公路的入口点时，在路边的设备装置会通过电子去检查车辆测定它的功能，以及查明它的是否能正常运行。

ascertain 查明、弄清、确定：as(作为）certain（必然、可靠）做为必然可靠的事情一定要查明、弄清。

一次看美国电影，一个严厉的中年教官曾经对一个青年说 you are not a tough boy！
好象最通俗的意思就是强悍的意思
