今日长难句，选自新浪微博屠屠老师

第一句： The Aswan Dam, for example, stopped the Nile flooding but deprived Egypt of the fertile silt that floods left——all in return for a giant reservoir of disease which is now so full of silt that it barely generates electricity.

[参考译文] 例如，阿斯旺大坝使得尼罗河不再洪水泛滥，但是它也夺去了埃及洪水留下的肥沃淤泥——这些换来的就是这么个疾病滋生的水库，现在这个水库积满了淤泥，几乎不能发电了。
[分析] for example插入语，The Aswan Dam主语，谓语是but引导的并列结构stopped…. but deprived…。that floods left是插入语，修饰silt。破折号后面是解释说明，which和that引导两个定语从句修饰的都是a giant reservoir of disease。

[词汇] deprive…of…剥夺；in return for置换；generate产生
[讲解]第一，请大家记住，在剧中的however和for example翻译时一定一定要放在最前面，第二，deprive…of…剥夺，第三，in return for置换，第四reservoir大家去翻翻这单词咋读，挺有趣的。

第二句： In the past year, however, software companies have developed tools that allow companies to "push" information directly out to consumers, transmitting marketing messages directly to targeted customers.

【译文】但是，在过去的一年间，软件公司已经开发出工具，使得公司可以直接将信息"推送"给顾客，直接把营销讯息传递给目标顾客。
【分析】In the past year是时间状语, software companies是主语，have developed是谓语，宾语tools后面是that引导的定语从句，从句谓语是allow… to do的结构，transmitting引导分词结构。
【词汇】transmit传递（trans-前缀，转换）targeted目标的

第三句： As Eugene Ferguson has pointed out, "A technologist thinks about objects that cannot be reduced to unambiguous verbal descriptions: they are dealt with in his mind by a visual, nonverbal process...The designer and the inventor.., are able to assemble and manipulate in their minds devices that as yet do not exist".

[参考译文] 正如尤金·弗格森所指出的："一个技术专家思考那些不能被简化成能被清楚的语言描述的东西。这些东西在他的思维中是通过一种视觉的、非语言表述的过程处理的……设计者和发明者……能够在他们的脑中装配并操作那些还不存在的装置。"
[分析]引号部分是point out的宾语，A technologist thinks about objects是主干，that 引导定语从句。冒号后面是解释说明。The designer and the inventor是另一句的主语，are able to assemble and manipulate是谓语，devices是宾语，in their minds是状语，后面是定语从句修饰devices，注意这是考研翻译题中重点考察现象：动宾之间的分割结构。
第一，ambiguous这词大家最近背到没？模糊的，模棱两可的，2.assemble assembly大家自己区分一下，第三，manipulate ，操纵，第四，as yet还没？哪个孩子给我看成jet了！！！！

1.例如阿斯旺大坝虽然阻止了尼罗河的洪水，但与此同时它也使得埃及失去了洪水留下来的肥沃的淤泥，这给大坝带来了弊病，大坝里面现在积满了淤泥以至于不能发电。
2.然而，在过去的几年软件公司已经发展了他们的技术，使得公司能够直接把信息直接“推给”消费者，并直接把市场信息传递给他们的目标消费者。
3.正如因基尼弗格森所说“一个科学家思考那些不能用清晰的语言说明的东西：他们在大脑中通过一种可视的，非语言的方式解决。。。。设计者和发明者。。。。能够通过大脑收集和操控那些并不存在的装置。”
最后一句，拉格昨天才发过，所以印象有点深刻。。。
