标题: 武汉雅思托福培训阅读中修辞目的题解题方法II
修辞目的题,亦称例证,是每篇文章必出的题型。该题型经过一定量的训练,完全可以做到考试时不失分,因为其做题规律极强。上期已讨论过第一种解题思路,简称为“绕过例子看概述”。本文笔者主要讲解第二种解法,现用TPO中一例说明:

Paragraph 5:Tools themselves can be revealing. Long-handed Neolithic spoons of yew wood preserved in Alpine villages dating to 3000 B.C. have survived; the signs of rubbing on their left side indicate that their users were right-handed. The late Ice Age rope found in the French cave of Lascaux consists of fibers spiraling to the right, and was therefore tressed by a right-hander.

In paragraph 5, why does the author mention the Ice Age rope found in the French cave of Lascaux?
  ○ As an example of an item on which the marks of wear imply that it was used by a right-handed person
  ○ Because tressing is an activity that is easier for a right-handed person than for a left-handed person
  ○ Because the cave of Lascaux is the site where researchers have found several prehistoric tools made for right-handed people
  ○ As an example of an item whose construction shows that it was right handed made by a right-person
  

该题通过题目中的定位词很容易定位到段落的最后一句。不难发现,最后一句中并没有类似于“for example”或“for instance”这种表达,证明有可能是属于例子与概述合二为一的情况,即例子与概述位于同一个复合句中。就本题而言,最后一句中逗号后面的部分“and was therefore tressed by a right-hander”即为答案所在地。故本题的答案为第四个。
