注:
活动内容:
a.填补一下相应单词的中文释义(有一词多义的其他词义也请给出),市场统一零售价5考元一个释义

These words all mean to be affected or decided by sth.

depend on sth , depend upon sth phrasal verb ( not used in the progressive tenses )
to be affected or decided by sth
We might need more food, depending on how many people turn up.
In informal English, it is quite common to say depend rather than depend on before words like what, how or whether : It depends what you mean by ‘hostile’.
In formal written English, depend should always be followed by on or upon : It depends on how you define the term ‘hostile’. Upon is more formal and less frequent than on .
In spoken English you can also say that depends or it (all) depends when you are not certain about sth because other things have to be considered: ( spoken ) ‘Is he coming?’ ‘That depends. He may not have the time.’ I don't know if we can help — it all depends.

rest on sth phrasal verb ( especially written )
(especially of a decision, argument or what happens in the future) to be based on sth; to depend on sth
His artistic fame rested primarily on the series of paintings he did of Queen Victoria.
Rest on sth is used especially to talk about the reasons for a decision or judgement and whether it is based on true facts: The argument/case/decision/evidence/theory rests on sth. You can also say that sb/sth's fame , future or hopes rest on sth .

hinge on sth , hinge upon sth phrasal verb ( especially written , [strike][/strike]especially journalism )
(of an action or result) to depend on sth
His success hinged on how well he did at the interview.
Hinge on/upon sth is often used when people are talking about results, for example of talks , an election , a debate , a case or a match .

hang on sth phrasal verb ( rather informal )
to depend on sth
A lot hangs on this decision.
Hang on sth is usually used in the third person, and in the present tense. Typical subjects are everything, it all, a lot and sb's reputation .
