The Project Hope
With the development of economy and the progress of society ,more and more “Project Hope”, which aims to help those who can’t go to school because of poverty of their family or other reasons, are being established in China. Nevertheless ,there is still a long way to arrive at such a tremendous task.
“Everyone was born equal ,”therefore ,every child ,no matter how poor he or she is ,has the equal access to basic education. Being lack of material support, many children living in the poor area are losing their opportunities to receive education. China, which is still a developing country and devotes to being a powerful country in the future ,needs science and technology that can be primarily obtained through education to accomplish its ambitious ideal.
Thus ,we need more and nore “Project Hope” to be set up in China. From my personal point of view ,not only should the government pay attention to this issue ,but also we ,as a happy youngster who can enjoy higher education at college should make our own contribution to the “Project Hope”. To donate our spare money to the project or to be a volunteer to help the children and so on can contribute to the achievement of the “Project Hope” to a certain extent. Only in this way ,I believe can our country solve the problems existing in the poor area.(230 words)

[E] Your composition should be written neatly on the ANSWER SHEET 2. (15 points)
OUTLINE:
1. Importance of good health;2. Ways to keep fit;3. My own practices
Good Health
The desire for good health is universal. Everyone ,especially those who once had been sick ,is well aware of the importance of good health, just as the old saying goes “ Good health is better than good health”. Without good health ,one will lose his basic resources ,leaving them out of reach to what they want to get in their life. They can not fight for the ambitious ideal ,nor can they enjoy the happy and meaningful time that they had dreamed of .
There are many ways to keep fit, as long as you can bear in mind that you will cherish your good health. Doing an appropriate amount of exercises is helpful for your good health. To keep a healthy and balanced diet also contributes to your fitness. Besides ,what is ussally ignored by many people is to maintain a stable mood for anything you happen to in your life.
When I prepare for the entrance examinations of postgraduate school ,I can be in good shape due to my plan to integrate boring study with health-friendly activities, such as playing basketball after I had completed my daily task. Certain it is that all of us can keep fit if we can take it seriously.(206 words)

[A] Study the following set of pictures carefully and write an essay in no less than 120 words.
[B] Your essay must be written clearly on the ANSWER SHEET. (15 points)
[C] Your essay should cover all the information provided and meet the requirements below:
1. Interpret the following pictures.
2. Predict the tendency of tobacco consumption and give your reason.
As we can see from the picture ,there is a total loss of 200 billion dollars per year and 3 million people die directly or indirecthly from the diseases caused by smoking, both of which are bad news to our world. So far ,there are nearly 1.1 billion smokers ,accounting for about 20% of the world population of 5 billion. Fortunately ,the world witnesses a declining total quantity of tabacco, from 14.364 billion pounds in 1994 to 14.2 billion pounds in 1995.
Needless to say , I believe that the tabacco comsumption will gradually decrease. Firstly ,more and more attention are being paid to health. It is commonly thought that a long happy and healthy life dwarfs a short enjoying one brought by smoking. Secondly ,more and more governments ,realizing the serious social and economic problems induced by smoking ,have taken positive and effective measures to prevent the number of smokers from increasing.
Nevertheless ,there is still a long way to radically eliminate the adverse influence caused by smoking. The world can be smokeless only if everyone contrubute to make the world better.(183 words)

本母鸡承诺:
①本鸡下蛋不见棱不见角
②保证有蛋皮,蛋黄和蛋清
Virtual Guarantee
As we can see from the cartoon ,a hen ,holding a piece of paper ,promises that its eggs will be of the ordinary shape and contain all the necessary parts of a normal egg. It seems very aggressive and proud of making such a guarantee.
It looks interesting at first sight, however, it is thought-provoking on a second thought. Nowadays ,more and more industries compete to guarantee to promote their products. It is not uncommon to see a vegetable vendor to claim that his or her vegetables comprises no poisonous substance and a TV seller promises that his TV set will be used under normal conditions. What’s worse ,a doctor in a private clinic claims that the medicine he gives to the patient will by no means do harm to the health of the recipient.
Generally speaking ,it is the responsibility of a man to provide healthy and helpful goods or services to others. Nevertheless, those people mentioned above take it as a selling point to promote their services or goods. Certain it is that our society will experience a moral crisis if we do nothing to prevent such a trend. Only everyone in our society voluntarily make their own contribution to better quality can we enjoy a real civilized business society.(212 words) |
