Passage 1
Bank of China has officially begun its branch in Cambodia on Saturday, and its Phnom Penh Branch is the first lender from China in the country and isthe Kingdom’s 30th commercialbank.
“The bank will provide advantages and positive inputs toCambodia to boost its banking industry and economic growth,” Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Keat Chhon saidduring the launching ceremony, which was attended by about 200 bankers, localand Chinese businesspeople in Cambodia.
“I would like to encourage the bank to focus its loans onagricultural sector in order to help Cambodian government to develop thissector, which is one of the four pillars supporting the country's economicgrowth,” he said.
Chea Chanto, the governor of National Bank of Cambodia, said the bank's presence reflected the confidence of Chinese investors in Cambodianmarket.
“With the presence of the bank, it would bring newtechnology and innovative banking products to develop Cambodian bankingindustry,” he said. He said that by the end of2010, the customers' deposits in the banking sector grew by 26 percent to 4.16billion U.S. dollars, while the customer credits increased by 26.7 percent to3.18 billion U.S. dollars.
The country has the population of 14.3 million, of which,1.35 million people have used banking system, he added. “We would help support large Chinese firmsdoing business in Cambodia, especially those in infrastructure projects,hydropower dams, agriculture, and special economic zones,” he said. “It is in linewith the policy of China in helping to develop Cambodia's economy.” Hesaid that as the bank's loan targets are mainly on huge projects, so hebelieves that the bank's presence here will not affect existing local banks andthe bank is looking forward to cooperating with all of them.
Cambodia setsto launch its stock market in July this year. Yue Yi said the Bank of Chinawill actively participate in the upcoming stock market through providingclearance and settlement services. "We will also provide funding tocompanies in the stock market and other market players," he added. ChenChang Jiang, chief executive officer of Bank of China Phnom Penh Branch, saidthat Cambodia's financial market is relatively small at the moment, but it haslots of room to grow. Bank of China is among the four largest banks in China. Its total asset is over 11 trillion Chinese yuan (1.7 trillion U.S. dollars), withbranches in 31 countries around the world.

Passage 2
One in three womenprefers spending time with girlfriends than their husbands. They can getglammed up, enjoy a good mealand gossip till the cows come home. No wonder one in three married women havemore fun with friends than their husbands. Researchers who interviewed 3,000women found that many would rather spend the day with a friend than be withtheir other half. Six out of ten said they prefer to go shopping with theirgirlfriends rather than their partner because they offer better, moretrustworthy advice.
The survey found that when meeting female friends the womenmade more of an effort with their outfit and spent longer doing their hair andmake-up. And a day out with friends was also likely to cost more money thanwith their husbands, with women admitting that their friends encourage them totreat themselves more.
The survey was carried out at the Lakeside Shopping Centrein Essex. Lakeside spokesman Sophie Scott said: ‘These results will strike achord with millions of married women all over the UK. After a busy week atwork, we all crave escapism and some “me time”, and it is clearwomen prefer to spend theirs with girlfriends than partners. Spending time withgirlfriends and hitting the shops, or stopping for a coffee and a chat, canlift a woman’s mood.’
The study revealed a third of women agreed that they preferto spend a day off with a friend because they were more fun and more likely toenjoy talking about relationships or gossiping.
Shopping, going to a spa or having a meal and a glass ofwine topped the list of activities women enjoyed doing in their spare time.

In addition, speaking and understanding English can let anindividual more easily communicate with others and find more job opportunitiesnot only in his or her home but around the world as well.
