Gone forever is my love, my hopeless love
Although David has been in Germany over a year, the thought of him still haunts me now and then. The scene at the airport as I saw him off repeats in my mind constantly, and forces me to write something about our story now.
We were in the same class for a year in senior high. Facing the hard pressure of the college examination, we seldom talked with each other. We hid our strong feelings deep in our hearts. I always want to the playground just to watch him playing football. Even a glimpse of his back would make me happy. He often borrowed my notes, and later he told me it was only an excuse to see me.
Fortunately, we both did well in the exam. Though we did not choose the same college and were not in the same city, he wrote to me and said that he loved me. We fell in love. We shared our happiness and sadness through phone calls and messages. We never feel the long distance between us.
However, everything changed in 2003. as the exam approached, I had to stay up to review my courses,. The night before the exam, I went to classroom as usual. At about 22:00, I cleared my desk and was about to leave. A strange man appeared suddenly and followed me. Fear flooded through my heart, I escaped. Just after I got back to the dormitory I picked up the phone and told David everything. I cried because he was not there to protect me when I was in danger.
David traveled by train to my school that night. In the cold, strong winds, he came towards me. I had an impulse to hug him, but reason stopped me. I had to think about the problems the long distance brought about. We had a heart-to-heart talk that night. However, his bigger surprise shocked me-he was going to Germany for further study in Grade 3. he hadn’t told me before because he didn’t want me to doubt his determination and his love.
“ rose, please believe in me. I’ll come back for you, just for you.” His voice sounded sincere.
I buried my head in his arms and said nothing. Because of my parents’ marital problems, I had been longing for a stable relationship. I didn’t think I could stand the long distance anymore.
I chose to give up, to bring and end to our love.
David left my school three days later, as he couldn’t ask for longer leave. The moment he got on the bus, he turned around, his eyes full of sorrow. Finally, the bus pulled away and he left without looking back.
My heart broke into pieces. I knew maybe there would never be a boy like him loving me so, giving me so much happiness and satisfaction.
We lost contact.
Last winter holiday, I received a call form David. He asked me if I could see him off-he was leaving for Germany. I agreed.
We embraced each other. David looked straight into my eyes and asked :”will you wait for me, Rose? Just for two years?”
I shook my head. He sighed and said :”I wish you happiness the whole of your life.”
I nodded and smiled with tears in my eyes.
He left. The plane took off, out of my sight in a short while. Gone is my love, my hopeless love forever.
