有三句考研阅读中的话不太懂，想请教大家

第一句 出自2010考研阅读partA中的text 1
It is difficult to the point of impossibility for the average reader under the age of forty to imagine a time when high-quality arts criticism could be found in most big-city newspapers.
我不懂的是to the point of impossibility 怎么理解，我知道to the point of 的意思是“到了……的地步”，但是后面加了impossibility之后还是不懂什么意思

第二句 出自2010考研阅读partA中的text 3
In their recent work, however, some researchers have come up with the finding that influentials have far less impact on social epidemics than is generally supposed.
这句话的意思我懂，是指：然而，在最近的研究中，一些研究人员已经提出调查发现意见领袖对社会流行的影响力低于人们普遍想象的。
我不懂的是这句话的语法结构，就是than is generally supposed，为什么than后是is？这是怎样的比较结构啊？

第三句
One wonders what he thought of the careful sermons explaining the Bible that he heard in Puritan churches.
意思大概懂：人们想知道他对其在清教徒教堂听到的解释圣经的细致的布道会有何感受
我不懂的是what he thought of在整句中的语法结构。

第一句就是 难度大到不可能的地步
第二句than后面被动结构的主语应该是impact，所以用is
第三句那是wonder的宾语啊，人们想知道他是怎么想的，关于…是怎么想的
