一个关于句子成分的问题（再次更新）

1、Science cannnot really explain electricity ,magnetism,and gravitation;their effects can be measured and predicted ,but of their nature no more is known to the modern scientist than to Thaleswho firest
looked into the nature of the electrification of amber,a hard yellowish-brown gum.

之前我对红色句子不太了解，就单独把它提取出来咨询了一下。咨询后的结果是这是个被动语态，正常的句子形式是
the modern scientist no more known of their nature than Thanles.今天再看这个句子，我发现让我不理解的原因不是句子本身，而是解析中的一句话：介词短语of their nature 做后置定语，修饰no more。这个解释我有点不理解，希望哪位tx能帮帮忙，谢谢[s:4]

请问红色句子部分应该怎么理解呢，very little  knowledge of what the rest of the world is all about翻译成对外界的一切却几乎一无所知是不是一种意译的方式呢？

1.个人觉得but of their nature做状语修饰后面的一个句子……“但就他们的本质而言，#￥%”，汉语是不是管那个叫句首状语？
2.绿色字体的翻译就能够表明红色字体的意思了哇……一个字一个字翻译就是“世界上其他的部分是关于什么的（相对于他的学业啊，一等荣誉学位啊（这玩意貌似是英国要求？））”，浓缩成“外界的一切”……用咱中国话来说就是除了学习什么都不会……O(∩_∩)O哈哈~

只是我看你的解释也看得很晕哦（可能我本来就有点晕～）
经过我20分钟的研究，仿佛把第二题看明白了（[s:10] 没办法，底子薄！）主要是那个all about 没弄懂，那再弱弱地问一句，那为什么这里不能用about呢？（希望不会太雷人 ）

只是第一题我还是不明白，或者我换种问法：为什么解析是做这样的分析

那个句子翻译出来意思就明白了啊：“但是就其本质而言，现代科学家并不比泰勒知道得更多……”
你整的那个解释的意思应该是这么排列：but no more of their nature  is known to the modern scientist than to Thales，一样的翻译
坚决不扯语法，扯语感，扯句意

第二句那个all去掉没啥影响的……
