本期词汇:

These words all mean to think that sb/sth is important or special.


PATTERNS AND COLLOCATIONS

appreciate [ T ]  (  not used in the progressive tenses )   
to recognize the good qualities of sb/sth
The sound quality was poor so we couldn't fully  appreciate  the music.

value [ T ]  (  not used in the progressive tenses )   
to think that sb/sth is important
They hold back through fear of losing the independence that they rightly value.  
NOTE   appreciate  or  value?   
If you  value  sb/sth, they are/it is important to you, for example you value  your friends ,  your health ,  your freedom  or  sb's opinion .
If you  appreciate  sb/sth, you recognize the value of sb/sth, although they/it may not be important to you personally. It is often used in negative sentences to mean that the good qualities of sb/sth are not recognized when they should be.

I've just been admiring your new car.

treasure [ T ]  (  not used in the progressive tenses )   
to have or keep sth that you love and that is very valuable to you
I shall always treasure the memory of our time together.

cherish [ T ]  (  not used in the progressive tenses )  ( formal )  
to love sb/sth very much and want to protect them/it; to keep a memory or pleasant feeling in your mind for a long time
Cherish the memory of those days in Paris.

prize [ T ,  usually passive ]  
to value sth highly
Oil of cedarwood is highly prized for its use in medicine and perfumery.

NOTE appreciate or value?
If you value sb/sth, they are/it is important to you, for example you value your friends , your health , your freedom or sb\'s opinion .
如果你珍视某人/某物,他们对你来说非常重要,例如你珍视你的朋友、健康、自由或者某个人的意见
If you appreciate sb/sth, you recognize the value of sb/sth, although they/it may not be important to you personally. It is often used in negative sentences to mean that the good qualities of sb/sth are not recognized when they should be.
