好了，长话短说，我们要讲的东西 非常非常重要，因为在研英考试中很多人就因为忽略了这些而栽在上面，所以睁大眼睛，瞧仔细了！！！！！！~~~~

【英文翻译的基本方法和技巧之五】 （资料来源： 朱泰祺《新编硕士研究生英语入学考试复习指导》）

正义反译和反义正译

英汉两种语言均可以从正面或反面来表达同一概念。正义反译是指英语里有些从正面表达的词语或句子，译成汉语时可以从反面来表达；反义正译是指英语里有些从反面表达的词语或句子，译成汉语时可以从正面来表达。正义反译和反义正译是一种翻译方法，其目的是为了解决翻译过程中所遇到的表达方面的困难，使译文更通顺达意。

1正义反译

例一：But we must bear in mind that the great proportion of books, plays and films which come before the cens
or are very far from being “works of art”.

分析： （be）far from 在英语里是正面表达，但其含义是not at all, 故译为“远非，远不是，一点也不（是）”。如：Your work is far from (being ) satisfactory.(你的工作也一点也不令人满意)

译文：可是我们要牢记送到审读员面前的大量书刊、戏剧和电影远非“杰作”。

★注意：送给大家一个很常见，很好用的词：bear in mind 意为“记住,牢记,不忘”，so you must bear this phrase in mind!!

例二： We are taught that a business letter should be written in a formal style rather than in a personal one.

分析：rather than是含有否定意义的肯定形式，故译为“而不应，而非”。

译文：我们知道，公函要以正式文体书写，而非用私人信函的文体来来书写。

★注意：
①所谓英语正面表达是指在原文中没有用no、not或带否定意义前缀的词，如dishonest, impossible, indirect..
②英语中有些词或短语常常正义反译，如：miss the bus (没有赶上公共汽车)，be absent from the meeting (没有出席会议)，a final decision (不可改变的决定），（be）at a loss （不知所措）等。
③英语中有时所表达的并不是其字面意义，而是其字面意义的反义，或者说是对其字面意义的否定。例如：gas mask (防毒面具)，riot police (防暴警察），crisis law （反危机法案）。
④有些句子则需要通过上下文，根据逻辑推理，仔细推敲关键词的实际含义，再采取适当的反译法进行翻译。

2. 反义正译

例一：In the long run, there is no doubt that everybody would be much better off if smoking were banned altogether, but people are not ready for such drastic action.

分析：there is no doubt 意为it is clear,故译为“十分清楚或毫无疑问”。在一次看这句时或许你也会像popo一样迷惑off的意思，其实这里还有一个词组be better off,意为“生活好，境况好,富裕”。例：We are better off now.

译文：从长远的观点来看，如果完全禁止吸烟，毫无疑问，那么每个人的境况将得到很大改善。但对于采取这种极端措施，人们尚无准备。

例二：His income is not so small but he can support his family.

分析：not so …but 句型中but是连接词，意为that…not.所以，此句如直译，则为：他的收入还没有少到不能养家糊口。但按照
汉语习惯，我们常把它意译。

译文：他的收入无论怎么少，也能维持一家的生活。

★注意：反义正译时重要的翻译方法之一，这种常见的语言现象还有：

①It is no less than blackmail to ask such a high price.
(开那么高的价，简直是敲竹杠。)

②I am not so sick but I can come to sit for the exam.
(尽管我生病了，但还是能来参加考试，或，我还没有病到不能来参加考试。)

③The beaten enemy had no other choice than to surrender.
(被击败的敌人只得投降。)

④You can not attach too much importance to the matter.
(你应该非常重视这件事。)

⑤He is no less clever than his brother.
(他和他兄弟一样聪明。)

⑥The man over there is none other than our principal.
(占在那儿的人正是我们的校长。)

1. 分析：【 deny 在英语中是正面表达，在本句中其词义为refuse to give,故译为“不给予”。
译文：一些十几岁的孩子往往对社会存有普遍的逆反心理，虽然他们发育成熟，但社会并没有给予他们同成年人一样的权利和优待。 】

2 分析：【 cannot…too意为“怎么……也不过分”，即“越……越好，应该尽……”。如：You cannot be too careful in crossing the road.(过马路越小心越好。) not nearly 是习惯用语，意为“远不”，如There are not nearly enough people here to do the job!(要做这项工作，这里的人手远远不够。)
译文：年轻科学家应尽快认识到，现有的科学知识远不像许多教科书所叙述的那样全面、那样肯定、那样一成不变。】

3 分析：【 nothing but 意为“除了，只不过，仅仅”，如：After the bankruptcy, he had nothing but only friends.
译文：科学研究的方法只是人类思维活动的必要表达方法。 】

blackmail意为\"敲诈，勒索\"
表示黑色的 black 和通常表示信件的 mail 组合在一起，怎么会变成“敲诈，勒索”呢？还真让人有点想不通。
这个词起源于一个海盗部落的旧例，海盗们欺凌百姓横行乡里。他们向苏格兰的农夫们收取保护费，如果农夫不付保护金，海盗们会偷取他们的庄稼和牲畜。mail 在古英语中表示“订金，保护金”。black 或者表示这种做法的黑暗，或者表示这种保护费是以实物，如牛等支付，区别于银币，也就是白色的钱。
电影《Rob Roy》的开场就描绘了这样的场景：男主人 Bob Roy 在收到他要保护的农夫的保护费后，就开始帮他们追讨他们被别的海盗偷走的牛。最后他承认自己也偷过牛，但从不拿收了保护费的农夫的牛，这也是所谓小偷的尊严吧。
1552年这个词第一次出现，到1826年衍生为“敲诈，勒索”的含义。而 mail 作为“保护金”的含义，也只有在 blackmail 一词中存在了。
